August 2018 – The Trump administration announced in May a proposed rule to cut Title X family planning services funds to clinics that provide or refer for abortions. Planned Parenthood, the largest single abortion provider in the U.S., will lose $60 million of taxpayer funding as a result.

Though law already prohibited the usage of taxpayer funds specifically for abortions, Title X funds were used to support abortion centers, including Planned Parenthood, which performs more than 320,000 abortions a year, arguably making abortion its primary revenue generator. The new rule does not, however, affect Planned Parenthood’s and other abortion clinics’ ability to file claims and receive payment from Medicaid – also taxpayer funds.

Under the new rule, “[S]hared facilities, common staff, and single file systems between Title X supported activities and non-Title X abortion-related activities” are forbidden.
