August 2018 – For the first time on record, more U.S. job openings were recorded in April than there are unemployed Americans. The number of available jobs rose to 6.7 million, while the unemployment rate of 3.8% was at an 18-year low. Employers have added jobs for 92 uninterrupted months.

Job openings in professional and business services such as accountants, architects and engineers increased most significantly. Manufacturing, hotel, and restaurant jobs also increased sharply. Available jobs increased most significantly in the Midwest and West.
