January-February 2018 – AFA Journal earned two awards at the 2017 Southern Christian Writers Conference. Freelance writer Bret Holt won first place feature article for “Lest we forget” (November 2016 issue). Editor Randall Murphree was awarded second place for “Yad Vashem – a monument and a name” posted on afa.net/the-stand.

Complementing the AFAJ recognition, American Family Studios’ Ryan Defrates: Secret Agent, an animated series, won the Gold Crown Award for Best Children’s Video at the 2017 International Christian Visual Media Awards. The series was created by AFA’s Kendra White and her brother, Jeremy White.

AFA’s Billy Davis submitted a movie script to the Kairos Prize for spiritually uplifting screenplays by first-time screenwriters. At press time, Davis had been named one of 15 semi-finalists from among some 500 entries. The winner will be named in February. Davis is a news writer for OneNewsNow, AFA’s daily e-news service.
