January-February 2018 – Netflix and Amazon Prime streaming services have both labeled – accidentally, they say – films with pornographic content as suitable for family viewing. Netflix mistakenly categorized nearly a dozen such porn titles, all containing nudity and some featuring graphic scenes and rape.

Equally as disturbing as the content of these mislabeled films is the fact that children can access the Netflix films by redeeming a gift card without ever actually signing up for the service. So, even parents who diligently monitor their own Netflix accounts should be aware of this added threat available through Christmas gift card purchases.

A spokesman for Amazon said they were working closely with their third-party suppliers to reduce instances of this happening. Netflix, on the other hand, simply states on its website that it uses “reasonable judgment” to determine age rating for viewing previously unrated materials.
