January-February 2018 – A new poll of 2,300 U.S. adults found that 71% of Americans believe political correctness has muzzled certain voices in vital societal dialogues. Fifty-three percent feel the need to censor their own political beliefs. Findings of the Cato 2017 Free Speech and Tolerance Survey also reveal significant variation in self-censorship among liberals and conservatives.
