March 2018 – On January 1, marijuana was legalized in California, and projected outcomes of that change are ominous.

Marijuana related traffic fatalities have increased 100% in two states where the drug is already legalized – Colorado and Washington – which is certainly one of the outcomes some predict in California.

While California will benefit from the legal sale of the drug by taxes, Gateway Seminary president Jeff Iorg said the human cost will far outweigh the benefits.

“Whatever economic gains the legalization of marijuana will supposedly produce will be offset by the human toll on damaged relationships,” Iorg said. He also cited loss of productivity in the workforce and the cost of expanded government social programs to deal with the human fallout.

Recreational marijuana is legal in Colorado, Washington, Alaska, Nevada, and Oregon. Medical use of marijuana has been approved by 29 states and Washington D.C.
