November 2018 – Alabama public schools now have the option to display the national motto in classrooms statewide. On July 1, Governor Kay Ivey (R) signed the legislation originally proposed by State Representative David Standridge (R-District 34).

Found on U.S. currency and posted in many government buildings, “In God We Trust” has been the national motto of the United States since 1956. This legislation did not make the display of the motto mandatory, but simply provides educators freedom to display the motto. (See AFA Journal, 10/18.)
