November 2018 – A piano teacher, Dimitra Solomos, has filed suit against Sky Mountain Charter School in Southern California after the school first approved and then rejected her application to become an approved school vendor. Solomos believes this rejection was due solely to her use of religious music.

At the request of numerous parents, Solomos had completed a background check, obtained a business license, and complied with all other legal requirements to become an approved vendor.

Solomos was informed by the school director that if she wanted to teach piano at the charter school, she would need to rip out of her books all religious music, including classics such as “Amazing Grace,” Christmas music, spirituals, and even the works of Bach, whose works were all dedicated to the glory of God.

Represented by Pacific Justice Institute, Solomos is seeking restoration of her teaching position as well
as damages.
