September 2019 – Oregon Governor Kate Brown (D) recently signed House Bill 2023 mandating “sufficient instruction on the histories, contributions, and perspectives of individuals” in a number of categories including Native Americans, women, immigrants, and “lesbian, gay, or transgender.” Oregon became the fifth state to adopt some type of pro-LGBT curriculum.

However, parents in Pennsylvania’s State College Area School District prevailed against this kind of curriculum onslaught. After repeatedly being denied access to their school’s sex education curriculum, the parents contacted Liberty Counsel.

Since Pennsylvania law affords parents the right to exempt students from instruction that conflicts with religious beliefs, Liberty Counsel advised parents to write district officials and demand access to the curriculum in order to make an informed decision on lesson content. Forty days later, after students had already been exposed to portions of the curriculum, the parents’ request to view the lessons was granted.
