September 2019 – One new Trump administration rule will protect women and children’s safety in homeless shelters. The Department of Housing and Urban Development will permit shelters with facilities such as bathrooms and sleeping quarters to be divided by biological gender.

The policy reportedly considers, “privacy, safety, practical concerns, religious beliefs, any relevant considerations under civil rights and nondiscrimination authorities, the individual’s sex as reflected in official government documents, as well as the gender which a person identifies with.” The rule was to go into effect July 22.
