June 2020“It’s important to know where candidates stand on issues because decisions do have consequences,” said Rob Chambers, AFA director of policy and legislative affairs.

November 4 is quickly approaching, and AFA believes going to the polls is important. But it is equally important to be aware of each candidate’s background. AFA and its governmental affairs affiliate, AFA Action, have partnered with iVoterGuide to help educate supporters, readers, and listeners concerning the stance of each 2020 candidate.

The iVoterGuide is a free and easy-to-use online tool. Rob Chambers spoke with AFAJ to help explain the value of this resource.

AFA Journal: Why is it important for citizens to be informed before going to the polls?
Rob Chambers: It’s important to be an informed voter because elected officials determine the laws and policies governing the nation, states, and local municipalities. Local leaders, for example, influence what type of books are on the shelves and what activities take place at public schools and libraries. State and federal officials craft legislation on religious liberty, bathroom policies, abortion, sexual identity, and more.

AFAJ: What connection does AFA have with iVoterGuide?
RC: AFA is a Platinum Partner with iVoterGuide based in Texas. Both AFA and AFA Action provide financial support and consulting. AFA Action collaborates with many other nationally recognized conservative groups to educate and motivate Christian conservatives to vote in both the primary and general elections.

AFAJ: How can AFAJ readers benefit from using iVoterGuide?
RC: There’s nothing that compares to AFA’s iVoterGuide. It is a unique resource for voters that provides a broad spectrum of information related to candidates. This information includes their position on issues such as religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and limited government that can’t be found elsewhere.

AFAJ: How does iVoterGuide gather its information?
RC: Our voter guide compiles information from candidates’ voting records, contribution records, endorsements, candidate websites, and answers they provide to our candidate survey. On our website, voters can find the guide in an easy-to-read format where they can research the candidates.

AFAJ: On what basis does iVoterGuide rate candidates?
RC: In addition to providing information about candidates’ views on issues, AFA Action’s contribution to iVoterGuide is the evaluation of candidates on a scale from “very liberal” to “very conservative.” The basis for this evaluation is based on the degree of confidence a candidate review board has in how a candidate would vote should he or she be elected.

AFAJ: Why do you encourage readers to utilize this resource?
RC: I encourage readers to utilize iVoterGuide because it is the most comprehensive voter education resource available. It will provide an evaluation of the federal elections in all 50 states. This will be especially important in the upcoming 2020 general election in November.

Our voter guide will show where candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives stand on the issues. Presidential candidates will also be evaluated. Currently, President Trump is the presumptive Republican candidate, but both Democratic and Republican parties will select their nominee later this year. The voter guide will compare where these candidates stand on the issues.

One of the most significant parts of the AFA Action iVoterGuide is that it is online. This means it is shareable via email and on social media. Make sure you are registered to vote and encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to be registered.

And share with them the AFA Action iVoterGuide!
