May 2020The AWAKEN Tennessee prayer movement is experiencing powerful revival in churches across the Volunteer State, with numerous reports of repentance, salvation, rededication, and baptism. AWAKEN began in 2019 when Pastor Dave Clayton of Nashville’s Ethos Church crossed denominational lines, bringing Christians in his city together for 30 days of prayer and fasting.

Joining AWAKEN as statewide coordinator, singer/songwriter Barbi Franklin, along with her husband Terry, worked with 20 prayer leaders to distribute instructive fasting and prayer packets across the state. More than 1,000 congregations joined the prayer and fasting initiative in February 2020.

Then devastating tornadoes ripped through Nashville and central Tennessee in early March, killing more than two dozen people. Within hours, churches that had just finished AWAKEN’s 30 days of prayer and fasting began to reach out and minister to their fellow Tennesseans in their loss.

Franklin said even brand-new Christians, recently saved during AWAKEN revivals, joined teams at places worst affected by the storms in order to help their neighbors.

“Christians across our state are proactively working together,” said Franklin, “to rebuild, restore, comfort, love, and give hope in the midst of this tragedy. We thank God that the church is rising up to be the church.”
