May 2014 – During an unsuccessful run for a U.S. Senate seat in 2012, Craig James stated his belief that marriage should be reserved for one man and one woman. He also suggested that homosexuals will have to answer to God for their actions. When his campaign ended, he was hired by Fox Sports Southwest. A day after his first network appearance, he was fired.

A spokesman for Fox Sports said, “We just asked ourselves how Craig’s statements would play in our human resources department.” However, after James filed a suit against Fox Sports Southwest for religious discrimination, the network stated his stance on marriage was not the cause for his dismissal.

Liberty Institute general counsel Jeff Mateer, filed the suit on behalf of James. Mateer said Fox Sports has been caught in a lie. He asked, “Did they lie when they spoke to the media originally, or are they lying today, when they’re trying to run away from this religious discrimination claim?”
