April 2016 – In December, the FDA announced a policy change removing the 30-year ban on blood donations from men who have been sexually active with another man. Previously, the ban required male donors not to have been homosexually involved at any time. The new guideline requires that a man must have abstained from same sex activity for one year before donating blood.
