January 2016 – Former student athlete Michael Lucas donated to his alma mater, Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, for the construction of a new athletic facility. With his donation of $2,500, Lucas was able to choose an inscription for a nameplate in the locker room of the new building. When he chose references from Colossians 3:23 and Micah 5:9, the school refused, and added a restriction that the words God, Lord, Jesus, or references to verses including those words were not permitted. Formerly, the school had imposed no regulation other than length. Lucas’ plate was placed using only the text of Micah 5:9 without a reference, but Alliance Defending Freedom has filed suit against the school on his behalf.
