October 2018 – U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions (photo above) announced on July 30 the formation of a Religious Liberty Task Force, which will operate under the Department of Justice.

President Donald Trump has made the protection of religious liberty a hallmark of his administration. For example, last October the attorney general released legal guidelines for all executive departments. The task force will be charged with carrying out those guidelines.

Announcing creation of the group, Sessions said, “[W]e have not only the freedom to worship but the right to exercise our faith.”

He also noted that an aggressive movement was under way in America, “challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom. There can be no doubt. This is no little matter. It must be confronted and defeated.”
