January-February 2021Archeologists with the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) discovered an ancient fortress in the Golan Heights believed to have been manned by an ally of King David. The IAA believes the fort was owned by the ancient kingdom of Geshur, which is thought to have controlled the southern and central Golan Heights during the 11th and 10th centuries B.C. David’s wife Maachah was the daughter of the king of Geshur.

Along with the fortress, the excavation uncovered figurines, jewelry, and other artifacts. Archeologists hope to preserve the site for future research and excavation.
