January-February 2021 – San Diego Unified School District is adopting a policy that will protect minority students from penalties for absenteeism, bad classroom behavior, and late assignments according to writer Jarret Stepman. The Daily Signal contributor believes the policy has no redeeming value and will punish other students who show up on time, behave, and do their assignments.
“We’ve had countless stories of students who feel that they’ve been bullied, that essentially, some students are allowed to run the classroom,” he said. “They’re afraid to go to school. And that’s not an environment that’s conducive to high academic
achievement.”
Stepman said the policy is consistent with the Obama administration’s push to crack down on racial disparities in school discipline.
