November 2021AFA Resource Center features many items to encourage godly parenting and family spiritual growth. For example, a four-DVD set by parenting expert John Rosemond helps parents instill Christian principles in their children. Apologist Alex McFarland’s DVD curriculum The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask About Christianity is an invaluable aid for parents. Many resources on American history and cultural issues fit the entire family.

Specifically for children are DVDs that teach drawing and painting, the Ryan Defrates animated DVD series created to teach moral values to children, and The Covenant Creek Kids book series in which children in the stories learn American history.

“In addition to our proactive resources,” said AFA executive vice president Ed Vitagliano, “to stand for biblical marriage in today’s anti-Christian climate implies the obvious ‘other side of the coin’ – that is to stand against gay marriage and its devastating impact on the culture.”

AFA Journal staff writer Mason Beasler gave the story of one of the most notorious current cases in “Supreme Court Refuses to Hear First Amendment Case,” a July blog on afa.net/thestand.

“The case,” wrote Beasler, “is that of Barronelle Stutzman, owner of Arlene’s Flowers in Richland, Washington.” In 2014, she declined to design floral arrangements for a gay wedding because of her Christian belief in the biblical definition of marriage.

Stutzman soon suffered the wrath of LGBTQ activists, and state Attorney General Bob Ferguson wrote the florist a letter threatening to sue if she refused to serve gay weddings. The legal assault has gone through the courts until last July, when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Stutzman’s case. The decision leaves Stutzman vulnerable to financial ruin.

How does AFA weigh in on an issue like this one? First, AFA stands with Christian legal defense groups that represent victims such as Stutzman.

“We do that,” said Vitagliano, “by using all of our communication avenues to publicize these cases. And we urge readers, listeners, and online constituents to speak up by signing petitions relevant to specific cases.”
