August 2019 – The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that states can require burial or cremation of the bodily remains of aborted babies.

The SCOTUS decision upheld an Indiana bill signed into law by Vice President Mike Pence when he was governor of Indiana in 2016. The May 28 ruling overturned a Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals decision.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said the Indiana law “prohibits abortion providers from treating the bodies of aborted children as infectious waste and incinerating them alongside used needles, laboratory animal carcasses, and surgical byproducts.”

The Satanic Temple has claimed a violation of religious beliefs and has released a statement that its members may refuse to adhere to the Indiana law or others requiring proper disposal of aborted babies.
