State laws restricting abortion reflect public opinion

April 2020 – Pew Research found that in only seven states, the majority of adults said abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. Four of the seven have enacted laws banning the vast majority of abortions. Three additional states enacted similar laws but fell slightly short of a majority opinion of the people. A number of such laws are not being enforced or are not in effect due to court rulings, ongoing legal challenges, or referendums.
