August 2020 – In early May, over 4,200 volunteers from Rock Church in San Diego, California, answered the emergency call from their county’s center of medical operations to assist in retrofitting and repairing outdated N95 respirators for front-line workers in the battle against COVID-19.
Working diligently in three-hour shifts, the volunteers worked 12,852 hours to complete the task, saving the county almost $200,000. Lead pastor Miles McPherson said Rock Church got involved in the simple but powerful effort in order to serve the local community.
“Jesus did not simply sit in the synagogue and wait for people to come to Him. He went to them,” said McPherson. Since 2009, Rock Church has served in similar ways through its ministry outreach called Do Something Church.
