August 2020The 2019 report from Parents Television Council (PTC) indicates a large increase over the past decade in the amount of profanity and violence found in content rated appropriate for children.

Comparing program content analyzed in 2007-2008 with program content from 2017-2018, PTC’s research found a 28% increase in violence and a 43.5% increase in profanity on PG-rated shows. In TV-14 rated programming, research revealed a 150% increase in violence and a 62% increase in profanity over the decade.

PTC is the nation’s leading family television watchdog group. For years, PTC has called for reform of the rating system, saying it misleads parents by labeling inappropriate content suitable for children.
