August 2020 – According to data garnered by Gallup from 2014 through 2018, approximately one in eight women worldwide (13%) are unmarried and have children under the age of 15. In America, the number of single women raising children is higher (19%), almost two out of every ten homes. But other national data suggests this statistic had peaked at slightly more than 27% in 2012 and has been on a slow decline since.
Though these declining numbers are promising, the precarious economic position of single mothers was never more evident than in the COVID-19 pandemic.
