January-February 2019 – A September 2018 poll of Millennials by BuzzFeed News and Maru/Blue indicated that a large number of young people identify as socialist. According to the report, 40% of men and 23% of women answered, “Yes, I call myself a democratic socialist/socialist/either of the two.” Also, 52% of men and 46% of women weighed in with Democrat leanings, but women were more likely than men (62% to 44%) to disapprove of President Donald Trump. Women also more strongly voiced the opinions that marriage equality, transgender rights, health care coverage, and income inequality are human rights issues.

All but 15% of the respondents (ages 22-37) had an annual household income above $25,000, and the majority were white, straight, and married with children under the age of 18 living in the home.
